År 2005 ankommer en svensk minister med flyg till Stockholm. Han utbrister ”Det ser för jävla tråkigt ut när man landar på Arlanda”. Uppdraget hamnar hos F&M som presenterar idén att låta kända (och några okända) stockholmare hälsa ankommande välkomna via ett gigastiskt porträttgalleri som med åren blivit en rikskänd institution.

The Welcome to My Hometown posters are fascinating. One I could see was Astrid Lindgren, the other Nobel (of the Nobel Prizes) ... who was the small child? It’s a really interesting strategy to personalize Stockholm in this way, on the one hand linking it to famous people, but on the other seeming to prioritize not just their fame, but the personal and emotional context of the fact that this is their hometown, a word with a lot of sentimentalized connotations.
